Blickfeld Introduces QbProtect S

The New Indoor 3D Security LiDAR Optimized for Short-Range Applications

Blickfeld is expanding its existing security product portfolio with an additional 3D LiDAR sensor: complementing the established QbProtect sensor for perimeter protection, Blickfeld now introduces the QbProtect S.

Based on proven Blickfeld technology, this sensor has been specifically adapted to meet the demands of indoor environments. With high-resolution 3D sensing and advanced on-device security software, the sensor detects security-critical events with centimeter-level accuracy. This makes it ideal for the volumetric protection of valuable assets and areas, such as artworks in museums, server racks in data centers, banks, or premium residential properties, where highest precision is essential.

Detection of critical security events with centimeter-level precision

The QbProtect S captures its surroundings in three dimensions, generating high-resolution point clouds with up to 1,200 scan lines. On this basis, security zones can be configured within the scene with centimeter-level accuracy. Optimized for short-range applications up to 35 meters, the system precisely detects objects based on their actual size and direction of movement. At the same time, the LiDAR sensor even enables the reliable detection of reach-through attempts – such as a hand – at distances of up to 25 meters, to trigger targeted alarms in the event of an intrusion.

Discreet sensors for any architectural environment

Despite its powerful performance, the sensor protects sensitive indoor areas without drawing attention to itself. Thanks to its compact form factor, which is also available with an unobtrusive white housing, as well as its low-noise operation, the QbProtect S integrates discreetly into any interior concept. Power over Ethernet (PoE) minimizes cabling requirements, thereby fully preserving the visual appearance and architectural integrity of the space.

Intelligent on-device alarm generation without false alarms

Through powerful edge computing, the QbProtect S processes and analyzes 3D point cloud data directly on the device in real time. The web-based interface allows for the simple configuration of security zones. Thanks to Blickfeld Flow, a Node-RED-based software, security teams can individually configure alarm parameters. Whether object size, movement direction, alarm duration (dwell time), or track length – the system filters out interferences so that only genuine security-relevant events are reported. This reduces false alarms to an absolute minimum and prevents security teams from experiencing so-called alarm fatigue.

Proven strengths of Blickfeld technology

In addition, QbProtect S offers all the familiar benefits of the proven Blickfeld LiDAR technology. These include Privacy by Design (GDPR compliance) through purely spatial mapping – without recording faces or personally identifiable information – as well as lighting-independent performance. As a result, detection performance remains reliable and consistent at all times, even in complete darkness or changing lighting conditions.

“With QbProtect S, we are proud to provide a strong answer to a growing market demand, offering integrators and end customers a powerful sensor optimized for short-range applications,” says Andreas Bollu, VP Sales, Head of Business Unit Security. “Initial projects, for example with museums, are already demonstrating that the combination of high detection precision, architectural discretion, and absolute data protection is delivering exceptional results.”
