Discreet security at luxury properties

Alarmstudio: Securing a luxury property with Blickfeld QbProtect LiDAR sensors

Overview

Securing a luxury property’s external perimeter is a complex endeavor, requiring maximum security while maintaining discretion. To meet these demands effectively, Alarmstudio, a security company, relies on Blickfeld QbProtect sensors as part of a sophisticated security system. These weatherproof 3D LiDAR sensors excel at real-time intruder detection, distinguishing between humans, vegetation, and small animals, thus significantly reducing false alarms.

Challenge

Securing the luxury property posed various challenges. Situated on a challenging hillside with incomplete perimeter fencing and an open boundary to a forested area, the property required a robust security solution. Previously, the security setup relied on video cameras coupled with 2D LiDAR sensors. However, the cameras were inadequate in adverse weather conditions like heavy fog or rain, and they were not deployed throughout the property to preserve the owner’s privacy. The 2D LiDAR sensors also struggled to differentiate intruders from other objects, leading to frequent false alarms, particularly triggered by wildlife. Moreover, all installed technology needed to blend seamlessly with the property’s design.

Thus, Alarmstudio, the owner’s security provider, sought an automated solution that could detect human intruders reliably without compromising personal data privacy, while seamlessly integrating with the existing security system.

Solution

Fifteen Blickfeld QbProtect sensors were strategically installed around the luxury property to ensure comprehensive security. These compact devices were discreetly integrated into posts or embedded into stone walls, often paired with cameras.

With their robust design and IP67 protection rating, the laser-based sensors operate continuously, regardless of weather conditions, generating detailed 3D images of the surroundings. The associated perception software, running on the devices, defines security zones. When an object of a predefined size enters these zones, an alarm is triggered in the video management system.

By setting size parameters, the system minimizes false alarms triggered by wildlife or vegetation. As an initial deterrent, lights activate in specific areas upon detection. If an intruder progresses into the next security zone, the video management system captures screenshots, activates the property’s alarm system, and triggers an alert.

Results

The property is now discreetly and reliably safeguarded against intruders. Real-time 3D data enables early detection of suspicious activity, reducing false alarms and preserving the owner’s privacy.

Thanks to its compact design and protection class, Blickfeld QbProtect is an ideal component for the effective protection of highly segmented private property. Resistant to wind and weather, the sensors can be integrated unobtrusively and flexibly into the surroundings. The simple integration into existing, complex security systems was also key for us.

Outlook

The demand for tailored security systems for segmented private properties remains highly individualized. Alarmstudio plans to further integrate Blickfeld QbProtect sensors into a client’s security system, catering to those who prioritize privacy and opt out of video surveillance.
